A Rare pair of large, shaped tapering Fukagawa Imari Meiji Period vases bearing the early Koran Sha Fukagawa mark - c1870

Our Price: £750.00
Description

A rarely found pair of matching large early Fukagawa Imari Vases of slender tapering form with raised collars and each bearing the scented orchid mark of the early Fukagawa pieces, c1870.

Profusely hand decorated with stylised geometric forms, flora, fauna and featuring two large reserves with birds of paradise in flight, all painted in the typical Imari pallette and generously highlighted in gold.

The beautiful all over decoration and designs on these vases are stunning and of the highest quality and they have clearly been painted to be displayed as a pair together as they display magnificently.

However one bears an old repair and has been damaged to the rim and upper body.

We have not restored this vase as we believe any damages are part of the heritage of any antique item.We feel that the manner in which the repair has been made does not detract from the wonderful display but if a purchaser wishes to arrange restoration we can undertake this at an agreed rate.

The price on offer for the two in the current condition is the price one would have to pay for the undamaged one alone and therefore a repair is worth considering.

Some minor rubbing to gilt decoration to both vases as would be accepted due to their age.
