Delightful Meiji Period large Blue & White Arita Dragon Festival Charger, Fuku mark - c1890

Our Price: £520.00
Description

This large scalloped rim and ribbed charger, dating c1890 and made in Arita province Japan, unusually depicts a charming and continual "Chinese Dragon Festival Procession" scene around the edge of the charger featuring many children with lanterns and paper dragons amongst foliage and pine groves.

The Dragon theme is furthered by the large central reserve which features two entwined Dragons in stylised clouds within a geometric design  border.

The reverse of the charger is also decorated and bears the Fuku mark.

Apart from original firing marks, as expected on heavily potted items such as this, the charger is in excellent undamaged condition and retains it's vivid blue colouration.
