A fine and rarely found Meiji Period Japanese Sumida Gawa hand crafted statue ( Okimono) of Daikoku, one of the Seven Japanese Gods of Good Fortune.

Depicted as usual with his bales of merchandise and mallet raised aloft but additionally enjoying the wonderful intermingled drip glazes adorning his robes of hues of blue, red and greens so recognisable in all quality Sumida Gawa wares.

A similar statue is shown in the acclaimed book of reference entitled "SUMIDA..according to us" by Herbert Karp and Gardner Pond on page 162 , number 562.

Like the figure shown in the book of reference this example does not bear a signature or raised cartouche.

This item is in excellent condition apart from the missing head of the mallet.
