Our Price: £530.00
Description

A rarely found PAIR of Arita Hirado Some-tsuke Spice dishes modelled in the form of a pair  of Koi-Carp and dating from the Meiji Period , c1890.

As pairs and in this excellent condition these delightful dishes are very hard to find and of great appeal to the serious collector.

Finely hand decorated in underglaze blue, highlighting the Koi-Carp's fins and scales and showing refined flora and fauna to the inside of the dish. Even the fish scales are typically shown on the underside.

We have not found a similar pair of this quality and condition since a pair of similar dishes were purchased from us by the author and featured in the book of reference on page 85 entitled  "Imari,Satsuma and other Japanese Export Ceramics" by Nancy Schiffer.

The condition of both dishes is very good, with no cracks, chips or restoration.
