Unusual & individual Edo Period Seto Earthenware figure group study of a Monkey Trainer - Signed

Our Price: £550.00
Description

An excellent detailed earthenware study of a seated Monkey Trainer with a monkey perched on one shoulder and a mask of a Shishi (lion) protruding from a sack on the opposite shoulder.

Dating from the late Edo Period this lifelike study enjoys the yellow and green glazes typically associated with earlier pieces (Ki-Seto) produced at the old Seto and Mino kilns.

This important study is in excellent condition for it's age with no damage, loss or restoration and bears the makers/artist signature  but which due to it's lack of clarity cannot be translated.

Height : 9ins(22.5cms).
